My Thoughts of Synergy Spanish

SynergySpanish by Marcus Santamaria is a fast track course to teach beginners entry level Spanish and a little more that will give them a foundation to build on.  The lesson’s USP is to teach 138 words which act like building blocks to learn the language further. Synergy Spanish avoids creating confusion with grammar formalities like adverbs etc. and puts the fun back in learning.

The site is an easy and well structured system for people eager to learn basic conversational Spanish. The whole deal is packaged in 68 audio lessons which are 10-15 minutes long, with a step by step guide for you to follow.

The Pros of Synergy Spanish

-          The fun fast track way

The Synergy Spanish Fast Start Guide is part 1 of the 3 part learning course. It builds your foundation with the special “Synergy Verbs and Brick and Mortar words”. Learn to speak freely and discover how you can combine Spanish words to create full sentences.

-          The audio lessons

The Synergy Spanish Audio Lessons are part 2 of the 3 part learning course. The emphasis is on gradual introduction of more words in a step by step fashion in varying patterns to help you grasp the basics. Each audio is a logical progression of the previous one.

-          Online support

Synergy Spanish Coaching is available via email correspondence at any time. The author can be emailed with any problems that the student may face with the course.

-          Cost

The Cons of Synergy Spanish

The course is more suited to beginners and there is very little for advanced or intermediate level learners.

The aim here is to help the new student learn enough to start off and get through by not becoming totally fluent. The lessons are audio-based, but there are no interactive audio sessions. The lessons seem very traveler oriented rather than being suited for all around application, and there are no forums and no software components to aid students.

My Verdict

The course is ideal for those who need to learn the basics and a little more quickly and effectively. The fast track approach of teaching with 138 words works well as there is no tension of learning complicated grammar et al.  However, there is not much for advanced or intermediate learners and the course is fairly traveler oriented. But on the whole, if you are looking for a fast track version, then this is the course for you.

This is an excellent course and Marcus has more courses to build on until you know everything if you wish to carry your Spanish further. He also has sample lessons which I did for a year until I could pay for all of the course. They are really great.

If, like me, after 2 semesters of college spanish, and months of various 'online' courses, you could only walk into someone's home and say: "table, chair, refrigerator, stove, dog, cat'' etc. but NOT "Thank you, no I don't need any more"; or, "shall you be at home next week? because I would like to invite you to my house for dinner with my family" etc. then this course is all it promises to be!
What is the use of a warehouse full of "Spanish items" in your head, if you cannot build even a garden shed out of it?
Or a box of beads without a tool to string them into a necklace?
I did hesitate for a long time, but this course is radically different .

This is an excellent course for beginners like me-at age 75. It is easy to remember and to listen to. The written material is also excellent. There were quite a few mistakes in both forms of the material, but of no significance. I have done levels 1&2 and informal conversation, regret the cost is too high to continue. This is so much easier than simply using a textbook.I congratulate the producer.

Marcus Santamaria has truly found a key to unlock usable Spanish. Not only is the Spanish usable immediately, but the repetition helps cement words and phrases. The pacing of the audio and time for repetition is excellent. The companion documents provide the visual and written -- if you choose to -- learning tools to cement the lessons.

I am just finishing up this course and have only wonderful things to say about it. As a teacher of mostly Spanish-speaking students, there are many things I need to say to them - and thanks to Synergy Spanish, I can! Its a fantastic course for beginners. You really gain some communicative competence while driving to work, listening to these CDs.
